I have been getting tattooed since I was 18. Ever since then, as I have been adding more and more pieces to my body I seem to get asked the same questions over and over again. Because of that I thought it would be a good idea to compile the three most asked questions that I get about my tattoos.
Did it hurt?
So “did it hurt” is by far the most asked question I get. I mean if you are talking about tattoos and this question doesn’t come up I would be very surprised. Obviously pain is different for everybody and depending on where you get tattooed this pain will vary; I would be lying if I said it didn’t hurt, because it does. It is really hard to describe though, it is definitely not an excruciating pain, after a while you sort of just zone out anyway.
What does it mean?
Many people believe that you shouldn’t get a tattoo if it doesn’t have a meaning behind it. I understand that is why a lot of people get tattoos, but for me it is more about covering my bod in art. Sure you can pull meanings out of my tattoos, I can remember about that point in my life when I got it done and I can talk about my mind set when getting it done, but they weren’t set out to be there to remember like that.
Is that a heart on your arm?
Yes. Yes that is a heart on my arm, Thanks for asking. This is pretty much the second question just worded slightly different. I had to include it though because it really is one of my most asked questions. When people find out that it is a heart they then proceed to ask why? What does it mean? Why would you want that etc. etc. and to be honest I have nothing to tell them. I just thought of this idea and I thought it would look nice on my arm.
I like talking about my tattoos and I like the thought of these people actually taking an interest in them no matter what their viewpoint on them may be, Even if they don’t quite understand them. If you would like to know a bit more about my tattoos, I wrote a blog post just over a year ago you can read that here.
If you have anymore questions don’t be afraid to ask away in the comments below.
