When I was younger, maybe 10 or 11 I used to write letters to people. Not just anybody but to people that I looked up to. People that inspired me and that I wanted to be like, as I grew older.
One of the people I wrote to was Danny Boyle, Director of Trainspotting and 28 Days Later. He was one of the few people that took the time out of their day and replied to the letter that I had sent. I recently came across his response that included with this signed photo and little note attached.
It reads, “ Andrew, Thanks for your letter and your kind words. Small towns produce great things sometimes!”
From around June this year this blog has slowly started to go down hill. Posts became less frequent and when I did post the quality was substandard. I was losing motivation day by day with this constant battle going on in my head that my work wasn’t good enough. But when I found this response from Danny it reminded me to stay positive. You need to put in the work to get where you want to go, you have to keep pushing yourself.
In the last month or so I feel as though I have hit the ground running. I am no longer lacking the creativity I once had. It has reminded me that you need to take the highs with the lows and do your own thing. Sometimes you lose motivation and that is all right, you just have to get back on track and don’t let your mind wander for too long.
I suppose in a way it is good to get away though, to take a step back from everything and recharge. How do you stay motivated? Let me know in the comments below.
