When I am at home I spend 90% of my time in my tiny little room. Constantly trying to be productive and stay positive for what’s to come in the future. I try to surround myself with things that make me happy. Let’s talk about my wall for a minute. It’s covered in pictures, 90 of them to be exact. Each one of these pictures is a memory, a story to tell, a happy point in my life. It can take you right back to then and there, the moment when that picture was taken.
This first picture for example was taken in Edinburgh just after i had the interview for my current job. Or the second one takes me back to being at the pub with my friends after going to see Palma Violets in Glasgow, I was particularly sweaty then… Or even the last of an ex girlfriend when we were hanging out in my room three or four years ago.
Now according to Google the Definition of a memory is “Something Remembered from the past” it’s that simple. But with all these pictures being up on my wall and being faced with them every day it’s hard not to be nostalgic. It can be hard to just move on, you can find yourself being stuck in the past. Constantly wanting to relive or recreate these memories and that’s no way to live.
You need to keep these pictures as a reminder of all the good times you once had otherwise you will never move on. You will never make new memories as you are always comparing what’s happening now to the past. Let these memories teach you. Let them guide you to become a better person.
Even though you might want to move on and forget about some things, each of your memories and experiences has shaped you into who you are today. It’s important not to forget that.
My advice would be to surround yourself with Memories. It will show you all the good times you once hand and that lives not always shit, it’s not all bad and it gets better and all of these are reminders of that. Just don’t get too caught up in the past and let your memories and your past guide you.
